SUMMARY
The individual will be responsible for carrying out activities for R&D and Customer Support related to lead-acid batteries. These will include projects, test procedures, participation in technical discussions, etc. Reports to Plant Manager Hammond Expanders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manages projects strategic to the business
• Participates in the development of new products, solutions, and processes
• Assists in diagnosing potential failure modes in batteries
• Presents data and test results to customers
• Makes battery paste mix (positive and negative)
• Assembles 2v lab scale cells
• Operates pertinent lab equipment and instrumentation
• Develops methods for materials evaluation
• Creates/inputs testing profiles for battery testing equipment (Maccor and Digitron)
• Provides support to customers for additive selection and testing effectiveness of additives
• Participates in scale-up and test runs at customers’ facilities
• Supports customer service and sales as needed
• Helps to determine project budgets and laboratory needs to remain a high-value supplier
• Communicates technical information to non-technical stakeholders
• Maintains high-level expertise in their field
• Assures that processes meet quality and safety compliance guidelines
• Collaborates with other team leaders and departments
• Forges and maintains relationships with suppliers and customers
• Liaison with customers, universities, institutes, suppliers, and commercial organizations when required
• Any other tasks assigned by management
• Normal work hours: 8:00am – 5:00pm

• Familiarity with battery testing standard methods – lab scale to full size

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• BS in chemistry required, advanced degree preferred
• 3 years minimum work experience or related industrial experience

LANGUAGE SKILLS
• Proficiency in English required
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
• Must be able to prepare technical reports and make presentations to internal and external contacts

REASONING ABILITY
Must have a prominent level of reasoning capability and the ability to prioritize and execute individual tasks with moderate direct supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
• Must be able to travel internationally and visit customers as required

WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Must be able to work outside of normal business hours as needed to accomplish objectives and support responsibilities
• Consistent and regular attendance is required
• Travel may approach 25% visiting Hammond facilities, customers, and suppliers
