Barium Sulfate

Barium sulfate (BaSO4) is used as an inorganic expander in the negative plate paste, promoting lead sulfate (PbSO4) precipitation during discharge and improving battery performance, capacity, and cycle life.

Lignins

Vanisperse® A, Vanisperse® HT-1 & Indulin AT

Vanisperse® A is the world’s leading sustainable organic lead battery expander and considered to be the industry standard. Derived from Norway Spruce lignin, it is known for its robustness in protecting the spongy lead structure from deterioration. It enables batteries with the capacity for high amperage delivery with a high level of charge and discharge capacity and excellent cycle life.

Vanisperse® HT-1 significantly increases the life of the negative electrode under high-temperature conditions for both shallow and deep cycles. Vanisperse HT-1 is particularly effective in under hood automotive applications where high temperatures can affect the life of flooded cell batteries.

Indulin AT is a purified form of kraft pine lignin used as the organic component in negative plate expanders. Typical applications include motive and UPS batteries.

Sodium Sulfate

Sodium sulfate is used as an electrolyte additive in lead-acid batteries, particularly in AGM batteries and dry charge batteries, to prevent dendrite short and improve charge acceptance after over discharge.
